Hi everyone! So, today I thought I'd share a little illustration that I did recently, about our lovely friends the bees.
Perhaps, now that the sun has occasionally shone and the 'summer solstice' has passed, you might be feeling a little more inclined to start adding some botany-based colour to your gardens, balconies and window boxes. When searching out for pretty new additions, keep some of my suggestions in mind: they will look wild and cottagey and lovely, but are also great for our friends the bees. Little flowers with fewer petals are perfect bee-friendly blooms (plus, bees like blue, so blue-hued petals are a bonus!)
Bees are amazing creatures. They pretty much keep the world turning. (Not literally, obviously, but they do kind of help us out with producing most food.) Without bees (and other pollinators), farmers would probably have to pollinate crops by hand, with a paintbrush. Not ideal.
Bees are dying alarmingly fast – some of this is due to pesticides, disease, but some of it we aren’t sure the reason for. We might not be able to tackle the pesticide using giants of the agricultural world (at least, not as one person) but we can help our bee friends by picking bee-friendly blooms, if only to make their lives a little easier.
Love bees too, or know someone who does? I made an adorable print for your wall - get it here.
